Alphonso Frederique Ringbloom, also known as the Voice of Hogwarts, was a Hogwarts student who was sorted sometime during the 1880s.[1]

Crest of Students Clubs

Ringbloom attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry sometime during the late 1880s. Whilst at school, he would frequently get detention and find himself in the Trophy Room, polishing the trophies there. During his time at school, he was friends with Skylar Flame, Margaretta Ironbark, and Olin Oakwood. Together, the four adopted a single crest using their own symbols, and after hosting a viewing party for a meteor shower, decided to form student clubs together. Ringbloom founded the Imp Club, but it was the only one of the four to not survive into the 20th century. The friendship began to break down as competition between the clubs grew fierce, and after a particularly vicious Gobstones tournament, Ringbloom left Hogwarts never to return.[1]

As the Voice of Hogwarts[]

The four founders had made portraits of themselves to guide their club members, but following the Imp Club's closing, Ringbloom's portrait was lost. It had actually been hidden by Ringbloom in a trophy in the Trophy Room, and would call out to lone students. He would console and comfort students with their worries, only asking them to perform small actions in return such as send letters or leave objects lying around the castle. Although small, these actions allowed him to exert influence and manipulate club members, in an effort to get the clubs shut down. [1]

During the late 1980s, Albus Dumbledore had been told about Ringbloom by the portraits of the other three founders, who had all reconciled with each other. They suggested a grand demonstration to lure Ringbloom out, however Dumbledore didn't believe them. He liked the idea of a demonstration of club knowledge however, and organised the student club challenge programme. However, as the founders had predicted, the event lured Ringbloom out and he attempted to sabotage it, though each time he was thwarted by Jacob's sibling. Eventually Dumbledore pieced the clues together and apprehended the portrait, taking it to reunite with those of the other three founders.[1]

Personality and traits[]

"Do not listen to his taunts, you are speaking to a master manipulator"
Albus Dumbledore warning Jacob's sibling[src]

According to school records, Ringbloom was an extremely clever, talented, but spiteful and unforgiving student. These attitudes carried on into his portrait, which was spiteful and angry about the closure of the Imp Club, placing all the blame on the other students and doing all it could to get the other clubs shut down. The fact that his portrait was highly effective in this regard, almost succeeding in its goals, speaks to Ringbloom's abilities as a manipulator. He was also highly egotistical, believing himself to be the 'genius of his generation', and got highly frustrated when others spoke against his intelligence.[1]

Magical abilities and skills[]

  • Singing: Ringbloom was a gifted singer and performer, for which he became known as the Voice of Hogwarts, a moniker which his portrait would later adopt.[1]
