Ammoniacum is a gum-resin exuded from the stem of a perennial herb (Dorema ammoniacum) of the umbel family (Apiaceae). Ammoniacum has a faintly foetid, unpleasant odour; externally it possesses a reddish-yellow appearance and a waxy lustre.[1]
Ammoniacum has magical properties: 2 drachms of it are a component of Belch Powder.[2][3]
