André Denis Leroux was a French Muggle-born wizard and the owner of Confiserie d'André, a sweets shop established in Hogsmeade in the 2010s.[2]
Biography[]
André was born in Paris to Muggle parents. When André was a child, he tried to make soufflé at home, but when he finished, the dish was shapeless. Frustrated, André unwittingly used magic to make it expand. This was the first time he used magic. André attended Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, and later graduated from the French school.[1]
In the 2010s, André wanted to establish his confiserie in Diagon Alley, but he later decided upon Hogsmeade, as he believed it had a unique charm. Additionally, being near Hogwarts, it would attract many students who were always eager for something new. André knew there was already a sweets shop in the village, but he believed that the population of the town could support two shops. If not, they'd eventually find out.[1]
During a shortage of Ice Mice and Pepper Imps from Honeydukes, André established his confiserie in Hogsmeade. Before officially opening, he began giving out free samples of one of his dearest creations, Dôme Figue Miel. A Muggle-born Hogwarts student was able to identify one of the ingredients, to André's surprise. The student and Daniel Page, who were worried about the shortage of sweets, saw through the windows of André's shop and noticed that he had mountains of the ingredients needed for the sweets even before opening.[2]
One day, André visited Honeydukes in an attempt to buy their recipes, Mrs Flume refused, as those recipes were made by her and her husband pouring their hearts into perfecting them, and were not for sale. The student, who was at the shop, confronted André about the stockpiled ingredients he had in his shop. But André replied that it was because he was so interested in the Honeydukes sweets that he needed the ingredients to dissect and taste his attempts in replicating the recipes. André insisted in his offer, indicating that if they sold him the recipes, he wouldn't need to try to recreate them and wouldn't need to stock ingredients, he even offered to give his stock to Mrs Flume as a gift. But she rejected the purchase again and asked him to leave.[3]
The student visited André in his shop, he found him still trying to replicate the Ice Mice recipe. The student asked why was he so stuck on Honeydukes recipes. André replied that since he was a child he had studied food from everywhere, Muggle, magical, French and foreign. But English food felt not so inspiring, except for their magical sweets, especially the ones from Honeydukes. He wasn't looking to steal them but to honour their recipes, and transform them into something new.[4]
