|"Is this all real? Or has this been happening inside my head?"
The topic of this article is of a real-life subject that has been mentioned "in-universe" in a canon source. The Harry Potter Wiki is written from the perspective that all information presented in canon is true (e.g., Hogwarts really exists), and, as such, details contained in this article may differ from real world facts.
The Angel is a pub located on Bermondsey Wall in London, England. Some Muggles to believe it to be the oldest pub in the city, though others hold that this honour belongs to the White Hart on Drury Lane, or the Lamb and Flag on Rose Street. However, the Leaky Cauldron on Charing Cross Road is actually the oldest pub in London, but this fact remains unknown to Muggles due to the Statute of Secrecy.
Behind the scenes
- According to Pottermore, the Leaky Cauldron was built in the early 16th century, and is older than the Angel. However, in reality, the Angel has existed since the 15th century, when it was run by Benedictine monks from a nearby monastery. It is possible that the Angel was established at a later date in the Harry Potter universe than it was in the real world, or that the Leaky Cauldron is the oldest pub in London in the sense that it has not undergone any major renovations during the time it has existed (the Angel was rebuilt in the 19th century).
