Anne Thisbe (c. 1840) was a Muggle-born witch during the early 19th century.[2]
Biography[]
Anne once had a romantic entanglement with Richard Jackdaw and went to meet him, based on his promises of adventure following a map he had taken from Peeves the poltergeist, but only after she solved a series of puzzles. When Jackdaw's decapitated ghost appeared soon afterwards in Hogsmeade without any knowledge of how he died, a potentially jealous rival, Apollonia Black, gave a false testimony against Anne. The House of Black's power over the British Ministry of Magic, as well as the fact that Anne was Muggle-born, sealed her fate. She was found guilty of Jackdaw's murder and sent to Azkaban where she was held for multiple decades.[2]
Etymology[]
Anne is a form of the Latin name Anna, which in turn comes from the Hebrew Hannah, meaning 'favour' or 'grace'.[4]
In Ovid's Metamorphoses, Pyramus and Thisbe are two lovers who share a tragic story, much like Anne and Richard in Hogwarts Legacy. Forbidden to marry, the two agreed to meet in a tomb. Thisbe, arriving first, saw a lioness with a bloody mouth from a recent kill, and fled, leaving behind her cloak. When Pyramus arrived and saw her cloak, he assumed that a wild beast had killed her, and fell on his sword. When Thisbe returned, she saw Pyramus' dead body and killed herself as well.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
- Anne is voiced by Natalie Gray in Hogwarts Legacy.[6]
- Anne only appears in Hogwarts Legacy if the player chooses Hufflepuff house. In the quest, Prisoner of Love, former Auror Helen Thistlewood brought the new fifth-year student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to Azkaban via side-along Apparition to speak with Anne in the hopes of finding the lost pages and proving Anne's innocence. When Anne saw that Helen was there, who she blamed in part for her imprisonment, she lashed out and attacked Helen, forcing her and the new fifth-year to Disapparate. This event is contradicted by those that occur if the player chooses a different house, where they encounter the ghost of Richard Jackdaw in a different way.[2]
