An antidote was a substance, generally a potion, that would protect against or act as a remedy for specific ailments.[1] Sometimes time was all that was needed for certain magical effect to wear off, such as in the case of Polyjuice Potion, but others required a special application to counteract such effects. Antidotes were essential study for Aurors.[2] The Mandrake formed an essential part of most antidotes.[3] There was a sign at St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries reading "Antidotes are anti-don'ts unless approved by a qualified Healer."[4]

- Anti-venom: Counteracted the effects of venoms.[5]
- Anti-Paralysis Potion: Counteracted the effects of paralysis.[6][7]
- Antidote to Butterbeer: Counteracted drunkenness caused by Butterbeer.[8]
- Antidote to Common Poisons: Cured the effects of most poisons.[9][10][11]
- Antidote to garish pink blended poison: Cured the effects of poisoning caused by a garish pink blended poison.[1]
- Antidote to Uncommon Poisons: Cured the effects of uncommon poisons, like Doxy venom.[7]
- Antidote to Veritaserum: Disabled the effects of Veritaserum.[12]
- Ashwinder eggs: Cured ague.[13]
- Bezoar: The stone from the stomach of a goat which cured most poisons.[1]
- Blood-Replenishing Potion: Replenished blood loss after injury.[4]
- Bruise removal paste: Healed bruising.[14]
- Bubotuber pus: Cured persistent acne.[15]
- Burn-Healing Paste: Healed burns.[16]
- Chocolate: Relieved the effects of a Dementor attack.[17][18]
- Cure for ague: Cured ague; could have been poisonous if improperly brewed.[19]
- Cure for Boils: Healed boils and skin eruptions.[20] Also counteracted the Pimple Jinx.
- Deflating Draught: Reversed swelling caused by spells, stings or other magical causes for inflation such as the effects of the Swelling Solution.[21]
- Dittany: Healed wounds and regrew skin.[22]
- Draught of Peace: Gave the drinker a feeling of peace and well-being, but if overdone it could put the drinker into a deep or even irreversible sleep.[10]
- Potion for Dreamless Sleep: Temporarily calmed emotional trauma.[23][24]
- Dr Ubbly's Oblivious Unction: While the specific effects were unknown, this tincture seemed to lessen mental or emotional scarring.[25]
- Elixir to Induce Euphoria: Cured uncontrollable sobbing.[26]
- Glumbumble treacle: Counteracted the hysteria caused by eating Alihotsy leaves.[13]
- Hate Potion: Cancelled out the effects of a Love potion, and vice versa.[27]
- Love Potion Antidote: Counteracted the effects of Love Potion.[1]
- Mandrake Restorative Draught: Cured petrification.[28]
- Mouth Itching Antidote: Cured mouth itching.[29]
- Murtlap Essence: A home remedy for cuts and abrasions.[30]
- Oculus Potion: Cured the effects of the Conjunctivitis Curse.[10]
- Pepperup Potion: Cured the common cold or flu.[31][32]
- Phoenix tears: Like the bezoar, these tears could heal most fatal ailments.[33][34][23]
- Skele-Gro: Healed and mended broken bones, as well as regrowing missing bones.[35][36]
- Sleeping Draught: Cured insomnia.[9]
- Ten-Second Pimple Vanisher: Removed facial blemishes.[14]
- Wiggenweld Potion: Reversed the effect of the Draught of Living Death[10] and the Sleeping Draught.[37]
- Wolfsbane Potion: Temporarily lessened the effect of lycanthropy.[38]
