An anvil was a metalworking tool consisting of a large block of forged metal (or cast iron) with a flattened top surface, upon which another object was struck or worked.[1]

Anvils were among the objects maintained at the Ashwinders' camps in the Scottish Highlands during the late 19th century.[2]
Clankers used by Gringotts Wizarding Bank in the late 20th century made a loud ringing noise like miniature hammers on anvils.[3]
