Apple was a female Common Welsh Green who was being rehabilitated by Charles Weasley at the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary.[1]
Biography[]
Before or during the 1991–1992 school year, Apple's wing became broken. Unable to fly back to her home in the mountains, she was forced to shelter on a rural Muggle homestead, where she subsisted on small animals and apples. Charles Weasley was called in to investigate a dragon sighting on the homestead, finding Apple and bringing her back to the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary for her safety. Noticing that she had been eating apples to survive, contrary to the typical diet for her species, Charlie nicknamed her "Apple". Over the course of her time in the sanctuary, Apple gradually became stronger as her wing recovered, eventually managing a few short flights. Charlie hoped that, in time, she would be able to rejoin her family.[1]
During Christmas 1991, Charlie was visited at the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary by his parents, Molly and Arthur, his older brother Bill, his younger sister Ginny, and his friends Jacob and Jacob's sibling to celebrate the holidays. As part of their visit, Charlie offered to take Ginny and Jacob's sibling on a tour of the sanctuary to show them some of the dragons there. Charlie introduced the two of them to Apple, reassuring Jacob's sibling that they didn't need to worry about being close to her as long as they didn't make any sudden movements or raise their voices too loud. While Ginny admired Apple, Charlie explained how the dragon had received her name and her recovery process to Jacob's sibling. Jacob's sibling praised Apple for her recovery, leading to the dragon looking happy and Charlie claiming that she knew that Jacob's sibling was talking about her and that she would thank them if she could.[1]
