Apple is the pomaceous fruit of the apple tree, species Malus domestica in the rose family (Rosaceae). It is one of the most widely cultivated tree fruits, and the most widely known of the many members of genus Malus that are used by humans.[1]

History[]

At an unknown point in medieval history, Malodora Grymm, a hag who married a king by disguising herself with a Beautification Potion, used a poisoned apple in an attempt to dispose of an unidentified beautiful girl of whom she was jealous.[2]

In the 1480s, the tyrannical Earl of Paunchley in the town of Poppleton, England, grew several apple trees on the grounds of his castle, which he forbid the village children to eat from, unless they desired a beating.[3]

Demiguise and the Lollipop

In late 1926 in New York, Upper East side, an invisible escaped Demiguise, Dougal, took an apple from a fruit barrow and ate it in the air, with a young No-Maj boy being particularly perplexed by the sight of a levitating apple being eaten by something unseen.[4]

At The Burrow, the Weasley children practised Quidditch in the back field, but because of the risk of Muggles seeing a Quaffle, they used apples.[5]

In 1993, Malfoy was seen biting an apple whilst watching Harry Potter's interaction with the Hippogriff Buckbeak, during Rubeus Hagrid's first Care of Magical Creatures lesson with the third-year students, likely an attempt to demonstrate his boredom with the proceedings.[6]

In the summer of 1996, apple cores were amongst the debris that littered the floor of the Smallest Bedroom due to Harry Potter's listlessness following the death of his godfather.[7]

During the 1995–1996 school year, Luna Lovegood fed Thestrals with apples in the Forbidden Forest.[8]

In 1997, Draco Malfoy used the remains of an apple to test the Vanishing Cabinet in the Room of Requirement of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, in order to attempt to bring Death Eaters into the school from Borgin and Burkes.[9] Later that same year, as part of the decorations for Harry Potter's 17th birthday party at The Burrow, Hermione Granger turned a crab apple tree gold.[10]

The Hogwarts Express conductor once ate a cine-camera, expecting it to taste like an apple.[11]
