"It belonged to a friend of Ollivander's who fought bravely, but fell, in the war against You-Know-Who."
Bill Weasley to Jacob's sibling[src]

This wand was made of apple wood with a dragon heartstring core.[1]

History[]

Garrick Ollivander sold this wand to an unidentified wizard before the First Wizarding War, who would later go on to be his friend. During the fighting, this friend was killed and the wand fell back into the possession of Ollivander, who kept it in the back of his shop.[1]

During the 1986–1987 school year, Jacob's sibling helped Ollivander create Penny Haywood's second wand, which he considered one of the finest wands he'd ever made. As thanks, he gifted this wand to Jacob's sibling, but he also gave it to them to remind them of those, like Jacob's sibling, who fought for others during dark times.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

  • According to the known properties of apple wood wands, this wand's owner was likely 'powerful and [...] a [wizard] of high aims and ideals', as well as being widely liked and possibly skilled at 'conversing with other magical beings in their native tongues'. However, Ollivander notes that apple wood wand users are often long-lived, which likely wasn't the case here as they were killed during the First Wizarding War.
  • According to the known properties of Dragon heartstring wands, this wand's owner was likely a very powerful wizard who was greatly skilled with magic and had a strong bond with their wand. Although they were the best at performing dark magic, the wizard likely wouldn't have used much dark magic since it doesn't mix well with an apple wood wand.
  • The item is a tappie, and when tapped produces red sparks from the wand's tip.
