April Fools' Day is celebrated on 1 April in both the Muggle and wizarding world. It is celebrated by playing jokes and pranks on others.[1]
Known April Fools' Day pranks
- 1979: Caractacus Phelps dropped over eight-hundred Stink Pellets off the roof of the Daily Prophet office in Diagon Alley, causing approximately five-hundred cases of Stinkitus.[2]
- Before 1994: A witch sneaks up behind Alastor Moody and says "Boo!", causing an over-reaction on his part.[3]
Behind the scenes
- Fred and George Weasley were born on 1 April, most likely as a reference to this Day, as the twins are notorious pranksters.

- In Chapter 2 of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, when Aunt Petunia confirmed that Dementors really existed, it was stated that "Uncle Vernon looked from Aunt Petunia to Dudley to Harry as if hoping somebody was going to shout 'April Fool!'"
