Aranshire was a wizarding hamlet located south of Hogsmeade and east of Hogwarts on the other side of the Great Lake in the Scottish Highlands.[1]
History[]
In the 1890s, the hamlet was overrun by giant spiders after Mary Portman began to breed them in her basement, resulting in the deaths of several individuals, such as Mary herself, Manuel, Bill Stacey, and Rhoda Tompkins.[2] Ewart MacQuod was one of those who barely survived the spider breakout, but he managed to make the best of the situation by becoming a vendor and selling spider by-products.[3] Crispin Dunne enlisted the aid of a Hogwarts student in ridding the town of the infestation, including destroying The Insatiable Spider.[1]
