Professor Archibald "Archie" Eagleton (fl. 2010s) was a Magizoologist and entrepreneur who worked at the British Ministry of Magic. He proposed the addition of Field Studies to the curriculum at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and served as the counsellor of the class.[1]

Biography[]

Life as a Magizoologist[]

Archie spent his whole life exploring the world and finding magical creatures. According to himself, he nearly had his arm bitten off by a Quintaped at the Isle of Drear. On another occasion, he was attacked by a sphinx in Egypt while going after some Nifflers which stole from a pharaoh's tomb. In Madagascar, he spent some time searching for the rare albino Ashwinders, breaking into a primary forest without knowing what lay ahead. He also encountered an apparently frightened Graphorn which came straight at him in the Forbidden Forest.[1]

Despite their common interests, he was not on good terms with Newt Scamander, which was perhaps why he wouldn't use the phrase "fantastic beasts". He preferred exploring the wilderness much more than writing books like Newt did, and considered Newt's ways for wizardkind to coexist with magical creatures obsolete, wanting to share the creatures with everyone and promote more direct contact between the two worlds, rather than only keeping records. The suitcase that Newt held creatures within was often a subject of their contention.[1]

Counsellor of Field Studies[]

He proposed the idea of a Field Studies class at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which was passed in the 2010s. He met his students in the Great Hall with Headmistress Minerva McGonagall and Professor Luna Scamander, the latter of whom would be the actual instructor in the fields while Archie served as counsellor. He introduced himself before McGonagall could get to it, and asked McGonagall to address him as "Professor" instead of "Mr". The professors informed the students that they would have to pass the Ministry's preliminary exam, which Archie guaranteed would not be boring. They would involve, among other things, testing the ability of protecting oneself against magical creatures, the importance of which he emphasised due to his experience with the Quintaped.[1]

Archie then met the students at the edge of the Forbidden Forest where the exam would take place. The students showed a lack of interest, but he believed they would meet some of the most dangerous creatures on the whole continent. They proceeded to the camp, where Archie and Luna presented a student with three suitcases that held supposedly dangerous creatures. The student opened one and found a Niffler, which Archie described as crafty and greedy. He asked the student some questions about Nifflers and praised them after they answered correctly, though claiming they still had a long way to go.[1]

He also asked Rubeus Hagrid to bring a wounded creature for the student to heal, but Hagrid couldn't bear to let a creature wait in agony, so he trained Fang to pretend to be sick. Archie was dissatisfied seeing Hagrid hadn't prepared something real and moved on with the student to search for themselves. It reminded him of his time in Madagascar, and he talked about his disagreement with Newt. He then found an injured Niffler in a clearing, and the student helped reveal that there was a splinter stuck between its toes. They healed the Niffler with some spellwork, and Archie wanted to set it free, but the student proposed to bring it back to the camp, to which Archie agreed. He found the Niffler to be muddled as it didn't seem to like him at all.[1]

Before the final test, he recounted his encounter with the Graphorn to the students, and said they would be similarly challenged for their preparedness of every possible situation. Hagrid then came and reported that his Mooncalf Borklump was missing, and Archie declared that it would be the next mission to search for him. Luna suggested that they search separately, which Archie saw as an opportunity to turn the test into a competition. He wished Luna good luck and beckoned others to hurry off with him. Eventually, it was Luna and her students who found Borklump and returned him to Hagrid. Archie congratulated them for passing the exam and qualifying for Field Studies, and sent fireworks to the sky with his wand. He noticed another Magizoology suitcase, however, and thought about it while others enjoyed the fireworks.[1]
