This attack took place on the Thestral-drawn carriage bringing Eleazar Fig, George Osric, and a new fifth-year student to Hogwarts Castle on 1 September 1890. The attack was orchestrated by Ranrok, who used his dragon to destroy the carriage, killing Osric in the process. All other parties managed to escape.[1]
History[]
Eleazar Fig was in the middle of transporting the new fifth-year student to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, acting as their special messenger. George Osric was a British Ministry of Magic employee who was carrying the Vault 12 key, which was concealed in a box that could only be opened with one who had the ability to see traces of ancient magic. Fortunately, the new student was able to see such traces, managing to open the box and secure the key.[1]
As the two older wizards discussed the looming threat of Ranrok, and the Ministry's reluctance to deal with him, their ride was suddenly intercepted by Ranrok's dragon, a red-eyed and possessed beast which tore the carriage in half, killing Osric. As the student saw the Thestrals materialise before them, the dragon lunged to strike again, so Fig demanded that they jump. As the carriage driver Apparated away, Fig wandlessly summoned the key, which turned out to be a Portkey to the ruins of Percival Rackham's house.[1]
