This woman was an aunt of Aurelius Dumbledore.[4]
Biography[]
Her nephew and death (1900–1901)[]
In 1899, this woman's sister was sent away from Godric's Hollow, presumably after her parents found out she was pregnant. Around spring 1900, she gave birth to Aurelius Dumbledore, and her sister took the baby into her care at one point.
It is unknown what happened to Aurelius's mother one year into his life; in 1901, Aurelius's aunt, without his mother, boarded a ship heading to America with Aurelius. During the voyage, the ship began to sink during a storm. Unbeknownst to her, her nephew was switched in the crib with another baby by a young Leta Lestrange. The life boat she went on capsized and she drowned when she dived under the water to try to save baby Corvus, whom she believed was her nephew.[4]
Aurelius survived and ended up being raised by an unrelated woman in New York, known as Mary Lou Barebone, who renamed him Credence Barebone and treated him abusively.[4]
Physical description[]
Aurelius's aunt was described as being a dark-haired young woman. She wore a nightdress and life jacket minutes prior to her death.[4]
Personality and traits[]
Judging by her actions, the aunt was shown to have taken her responsibility as her nephew's caretaker very serious to the point that she willingly risked her own life to save the child she believed to be him.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
- She is played by Linda Santiago in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.[5]
- It is only shown in the credits and in The Crimes of Grindelwald screenplay that she is Aurelius's aunt. It is never stated whether Leta revealed this to Newt Scamander and Tina Goldstein, so it is possible the latter are unaware of that fact by the end of that film.
