An axe is a type of cutting tool that can be used as both a weapon and a slicing apparatus.

History[]

In the story Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump, the Captain of the Brigade of Witch-Hunters cut down the tree that was thought to be Babbitty Rabbity with an axe.[2]

Attacking an opponent with an axe was one of the seven hundred Quidditch fouls listed in the Department of Magical Games and Sports records, and was said to have occurred, along with all the others, during the 1473 Quidditch World Cup.[3]

In 1492, Nearly Headless Nick was executed with a blunt axe, being hit forty-five times in the neck.[4]

After Christmas dinner in 1993, when Professor Trelawney demanded to know if Harry Potter or Ronald Weasley had left the table first, Professor McGonagall replied coyly that it unlikely mattered unless there was a mad axe-man waiting outside the doors to slaughter the first into the Entrance Hall.[5] On 6 June 1994, Buckbeak the Hippogriff was to be executed by Ministry executioner using an axe.[1][6]

A heavy blood-stained axe could be found in the Room of Requirement.[7]

In trying to figure out who had the initials "R.A.B", Hermione Granger mentioned Rupert 'Axebanger' Brookstanton as a possible but unlikely candidate.[8]
