Beasts was a subject taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry between the 15th century[1] and the 1890s.[2] The subject taught students about magical beasts and creatures both at the Hogwarts grounds and across the wizarding world.[3] It is unknown whether this class was a core or elective class.
At some point between 1891 and 1969,[4] Beasts class was replaced by Care of Magical Creatures and ceased to be a part of the Hogwarts curriculum.[5]

1890–1891 school year[]
In the 1890–1891 school year, fifth-year students had to brush and feed Puffskeins and Kneazles.[2] The new fifth-year student was also tasked to capture one Diricawl and one Giant Purple Toad with their nab-sack.[6]

- As revealed on Pottermore, J. K. Rowling originally intended for Care of Magical Creatures to be called "Beasts".[5] Given this, it is possible that the Beasts class in Hogwarts Legacy and Care of Magical Creatures are two names for the same subject.
