Beer is an alcoholic beverage produced by the saccharification of starch and fermentation of the resulting sugar. The starch often comes from malted cereal grains or malted barley.[3]
History[]
In the early 18th century, the landlord of the Leaky Cauldron developed a beer called Gamp's Old Gregarious, named after Minister for Magic Ulick Gamp's efforts to have the pub successfully stay open despite the passing of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy. The beer was known to be exceptionally disgusting, to the point where a hundred Galleon prize existed for anyone who managed to drink a pint of it.[2]
Tom, the landlord and owner of the Leaky Cauldron, offered Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge some beer in August 1993, but he declined, instead requesting a pot of tea.[1]
Butterbeer was a wizarding variation of traditional beer. Wizarding brands of beer included Wizard's Brew and Dragon Scale.[4]
