The sting of the Billywig caused giddiness, followed by floating. Dried billywig stings were used as ingredients in multiple potions, including the Antidote to Uncommon Poisons and the Wideye Potion. The stings also produced a slime, which was also used in potion-making.

History

Billywig stings were rumoured to be an ingredient in the popular sweet Fizzing Whizzbees. There existed an antidote to Billywig stings that would relieve the effects of being stung by one.

Billywig stings were stored in the cellar of Honeydukes in 1890. Garreth Weasley asked his friend to steal a batch for a concoction he wanted to invent.
