The Black Death is the name of a mass outbreak of the plague that spread throughout Europe during the Middle Ages, peaking in the mid-14th century.[1]
During this period, Nicholas Malfoy was believed to have killed many Muggle tenants, disguising their deaths as plague victims. If this was true, it was never proven, as he escaped censure by the Wizard's Council.[2]
Students of Professor Aesop Sharp at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry had to write an essay comparing abandoned potions of the Middle Ages to those of the Black Plague during the 1890–1891 school year.[3]
