- "When you and your sisters were at Hogwarts, you had a keepsake box full of your most precious treasures?"
- — Jacob's sibling to Andromeda Tonks[src]
This keepsake box was a container that was owned by three sisters from the House of Black, namely Bellatrix, Andromeda and Narcissa.[1]
Description[]
The box was made from wood and goblin-wrought silver. On the outside, it had a skull with mantling engraved onto the top of the box. The interior of the box was lined with a green cloth and had the Black family crest imprinted upon it. The box was separated into three sections for each of the three sisters to store one item. The locks on the outside of the box were silver and blue with a similar pattern on them as on the top of the box.[1]
History[]
Cygnus Black (III) and Druella Black gave this box to their three daughters before they left for Hogwarts to bring them closer together. Each lock was specially enchanted so that it could only be opened using a method of each sister's choice. Bellatrix's lock was opened with a blood payment, Narcissa's lock was opened by singing a lullaby passed down through the Black family, and Andromeda's lock was opened by pointing her wand at it and thinking of happy memories.[1]
At some point during their school years, Bellatrix placed several curses on the box so that intruders couldn't open it. These included a unique Anti-Alohomora Charm that caused green flames to sprout up and protect the box, a curse that summoned a magical knight to protect the box when two locks were broken, and Bellatrix's voice magically altered in a way that was designed to scare people off. During her last years at Hogwarts, Bellatrix hid the box "away from swords, arrows, and prying eyes" in a suit of armour in the Duelling Club room.[1]
During the 1986–1987 school year, Andromeda visited Hogwarts to see her daughter during the Hogwarts Anniversary celebrations, where she told her daughter and Jacob's sibling about the box. The pair resolved to find the box, and once they did, Andromeda helped them break the curses and open it. After clearing out the keepsakes inside, Andromeda sent the objects to their respective owners and let Jacob's sibling keep the box.[1]
