Blindness is a term used for somebody who has complete or nearly complete vision loss. The reasons behind blindness can differ greatly, and although it is usually treatable, it cannot be cured.[5]
History[]
Ominis Gaunt was a pure-blood blind wizard alive during the late 19th century, and he used a sentient wand that guided him around and allowed him to duel. His blindness could not be cured by any means.[3] This likely involved some magical cause, because mundane nature could easily be corrected.[6]
A wizarding speakeasy owned by Gnarlak the goblin, which was located in New York during the 1920s, was called The Blind Pig.[7]
During the 1990–1991 school year, Verucca Buckthorn-Snyde blinded Jacob with a variation of the Conjunctivitis Curse that was purple in colour in Knockturn Alley, intending the curse for his father Peregrine.[8] Jacob was hospitalised in St Mungo's as a result, and Healers could not cure his blindness with the Oculus Potion.[2]
By early 1993, Rubeus Hagrid's pet Acromantula, Aragog, had become blind.[4] Later, on 29 May 1993, Fawkes blinded the Serpent of Slytherin by clawing at its eyes in the Chamber of Secrets.[1]
Blind individuals[]
- Aragog – from old age.[4]
- Gringott's Dragon – half-blind from age.[9]
- Jacob – from the Conjunctivitis Curse.[8]
- Ominis Gaunt – from birth.[3]
- Mopsus[10]
- Serpent of Slytherin – after being clawed in the eyes by Fawkes.[1]
