The blunderbuss is a type of muzzle-loading gun with a short, large calibre barrel that flares at the end.[1]
History[]
In 1876, Rancorous Carpe, the then-caretaker at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, set a trap laden with various weapons, hoping to capture the poltergeist Peeves and rid the school of his presence once and for all. Escaping the trap with ease, Peeves armed himself with a blunderbuss, a miniature cannon, and several cutlasses and crossbows, then proceeded to entertain himself by shooting randomly out of windows. The three-day stand-off that ensued ended when Headmistress Eupraxia Mole signed a contract granting him new privileges.[2]
