Madame Bonhabille (fl. 1876) was an established French witch and hat-maker, based in Paris in the late 19th century.[1]
Biography[]
In 1876, Professor Eupraxia Mole, Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, commissioned Madame Bonhabille to make a new custom-made hat for Peeves, the resident Poltergeist. This was in an attempt to calm Peeves down after then-caretaker Rancorous Carpe devised an "elaborate trap" to banish him from the school premises.[1]
In 1929, Cyrille Charrus reported in Le Cri de la Gargouille that a rare Bonhabille hat had been found in Montmartre.[2]
Etymology[]
In French, her name translates to well-dressed.
Behind the scenes[]
- In the newspaper article found in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the name is misspelt as 'Bonhabill'.
- Given that a rare hat was found in 1929, it seems likely that she was out of business by then.
