Bonnetvolant Chapellerie, or sometimes simply known as Bonnetvolant,[2] was a hat shop established in Place Cachée, Paris.[1]
History[]
In 1927, Le Cri de la Gargouille reported that Bonnetvolant's flying hats (French: chapeaux volants) had escaped from the shop.[2]
Etymology[]
"Bonnetvolant" consisted of two words from Middle French: "bonnet", a type of hat for women or children,[3] and "volant", associating with having wings or able to fly.[4] The combination also produced a pronunciation similar to the word from Old French "benevolent".[5]
"Chapellerie" is French for "headwear" or "hat shop".[6]
