"Skrit?"
— This Bowtruckle to Jacob's sibling[src]

This Bowtruckle lived in the Magical Creatures Reserve in the 1980s.[1]

Biography[]

In the 1980s or early 1990s, Jacob's sibling would often bond with and feed this Bowtruckle.[1]

During the 1985–1986 school year, Rubeus Hagrid encountered an unusually long-fingered Bowtruckle wearing an eyepatch attempting to pick the lock of his trunk while he was in Hogsmeade. Hagrid rescued the creature and brought it back to his hut, but the Bowtruckle quickly ran to a wand-quality redwood box and refused to leave it. Naming the Bowtruckle Needlefingers, Hagrid realised that the creature was extremely untrusting of him and only accepted food from him, theorising that it had likely been the pet of a thief who had mistreated and abandoned it. Moreover, Needlefingers had started to develop antisocial tendencies due to living separate from other Bowtruckles, refusing to live on any of the trees in the Magical Creatures Reserve. Hagrid called Jacob's sibling to his hut in an attempt to coax Needlefingers to be more trusting, but the pair were unsuccessful. Having already befriended this Bowtruckle in the forest of the Magical Creatures Reserve, Jacob's sibling suggested that they introduce Needlefingers to this Bowtruckle in the tree-filled environment of the forest and offered to call Penny Haywood to help keep an eye on Needlefingers during the meeting, to which Hagrid agreed.[1]

Upon arriving at the forest of the Magical Creatures Reserve, Penny revealed to Jacob's sibling that she had brought Merula Snyde along due to her potential insights into Needlefingers's antisocial behaviour, with Merula having become interested in Needlefingers due to his ability to pick locks. However, even when surrounded by the trees of the reserve, Needlefingers refused to leave his box. Jacob's sibling suggested that they allow this Bowtruckle to approach the box first in the hopes that it could help Needlefingers become curious enough to leave its box and interact with it. After some coaxing from this Bowtruckle, Jacob's sibling, Penny, and Merula, Needlefingers briefly emerged from its box and seemed to be getting along with this Bowtruckle. However, Needlefingers soon shoved this Bowtruckle backwards and quickly retreated back into its box. This Bowtruckle fled back towards Jacob's sibling, who assured it that it was safe. Surprised by this turn of events, Jacob's sibling, Penny, and Merula decided to head to the Hogwarts Library to get more information on Bowtruckles in order to determine how to deal with Needlefingers.[1]

At some point this Bowtruckle was sent to Khanna Farms in order to help protect a special rare wand wood tree from illegal loggers.[2] They were one of the Magical Creature that Jacob's sibling and Liz Tuttle thought about showing off for their demonstration of the Hogwarts Hippogriff Club's Care of Magical Creatures skills.[3]
