Brian Selznick is an American author and illustrator of children's literature. Selznick is known titles such for the illustrated novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret, a Caldecott-winner adapted into the film Hugo, and Wonderstruck, which was also adapted for film.
On 31 October 2017,[2] Selznick was contacted by Scholastic to provide new cover artwork for 20th anniversary editions of the Harry Potter titles to be released in paperback form in 2018.[3] The covers were revealed on 10 April 2018.[4][5]

- Selznick was described as being "tall and lean and has wavy brown hair, wears round black-rimmed glasses that make him look like a grown-up Harry Potter" by The New York Times in 2008.[1]
- Hugo, the film adaptation of Selznick's The Invention of Hugo Cabret, featured a number of cast from the Wizarding World franchise:
- Selznick thought getting the call on Hallowe'en asking him whether or not to do new covers for Harry Potter seemed appropriate. He also envisioned how he wanted all seven books to pan out as a mural on the very same phone call.[2]
- Selznick is a Hufflepuff and is proud of it.[2]
