Into the Fire was the name given to an event of the Calamity.[1]

Part I (20-27 September, 2021)[]

Brilliant Event Into the Fire part I

While Ron recovers his memories of his fourth year at Hogwarts, the team pores over Gareth's journals for information on The Unforgivable. What will they learn about the shadowy organisation and its mysterious leader?[1]

Brilliant Quidditch World Cup Pitch[]

"I'm still having a hard time processing that Gareth Greengrass is dead. Were you able to figure out what happened to him, Harry?"
Constance Pickering[src]
"His journal confirmed what Hermione and I both suspected. Gareth made an Unbreakable Vow to not do anything that would jeopardise The Unforgivable's mission or reveal their members' identities."
Harry Potter[src]
"The documents Gareth left behind are full of compromising information. Gareth's Vow must have broken the moment Harry started reading through them."
Hermione Granger[src]
"Gareth had to know what would happen should he give Harry that information. Was he prepared to die if it meant ensuring his daughter got the treatment she needed for her blood malediction?"
Constance Pickering[src]
"Gareth was far from a hero, but I won't let his sacrifice be in vain. While we work on returning Ron's memories of our fourth year at Hogwarts, we should keep combing through his writings. I'm confident they contain the keys to exposing the rest of The Unforgivable and ending the Calamity."

Brilliant Quidditch World Cup WU
Quidditch World Cup
Return To: Quidditch World Cup Stadium, Dartmoor, England
The Quidditch World Cup is Quidditch's premier event. Every four years, sixteen teams face off in a knockout-style tournament to determine which team is the best in the world. The winner receives the highly coveted Quidditch World Cup, an honour Ireland took home in 1994. Harry Potter attended the final game of that series in Dartmoor with the Weasley family.
Harry Potter: "The Head Auror for the French Ministry of Magic, a Curse-Breaker for Gringotts, the Captain of the Japanese National Quidditch team... Those are just a few of the high-ranking members of wizarding society Gareth named as members of The Unforgivable.
If his allegations are to be believed, The Unforgivable's influence and reach extend further than we ever imagined.
"
Hermione Granger: "We know for a fact that The Unforgivable recruited Gareth in order to infiltrate the Ministry. I wouldn't be surprised if they recruit all their members purely based on what power and connections they bring to the table."
Harry Potter: "As usual, you're spot on, Hermione. According to Gareth, The Unforgivable were an exclusive group of wealthy and powerful wizards and witches who teamed up to gain even more money and power.
At some point, however, The Unforgivable's purpose shifted. They began recruiting more broadly. Rather than helping themselves, members were also encouraged - even commanded - to help each other "acquire that which they most desire".

Brilliant Omnioculars WU
Brilliant Omnioculars
Return To: Quidditch World Cup Stadium, Dartmoor, England
A common sight at Quidditch matches, Omnioculars allow fans to get a closer look at all the action on the pitch. These enchanted devices can zoom in, slow everything down, replay action, and even flash up a play-by-play breakdown. Harry Potter bought a pair as a present for Ron Weasley during the 1994 Quidditch World Cup.
Constance Pickering: "Why do you think Gareth kept these journals and records? He knew he'd die if anyone else read them. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful he did, but wouldn't writing all that sensitive information down be taking a needlessly big risk?"
Harry Potter: "Gareth was apparently conducting his own investigation into The Unforgivable. He suspected an internal threat within the group and was gathering evidence to support his claims."
Constance Pickering: "Then all that record keeping was Gareth trying to identify the member responsible?"
Harry Potter: "It appears so. According to his notes, Gareth believed someone within the group covertly disposed of the former leader, Theus, and assumed his identity using Polyjuice Potion. He points to a sudden priority shift and behavioural changes as evidence."
Constance Pickering: "Well, I suppose his loss of trust in his comrades is our gain, isn't it?"

Bulgarian Seeker Viktor Krum WU
Bulgarian Seeker Viktor Krum
Return To: Quidditch World Cup Stadium, Dartmoor, England
At just eighteen years old, Viktor Krum had already made a name for himself as one of the greatest Seekers in the world. During his tenure on the Bulgarian National Quidditch team, he managed to lead his team to the Quidditch World Cup finals three times, ultimately bringing home the victory for Bulgaria in 2014. Krum also competed as the representative of Durmstrang during the 1994 Triwizard Tournament.
Ronald Weasley: "I remember Viktor Krum. Bit overrated, if you ask me."
Hermione Granger: "Oh really? Then why did you purchase a miniature figurine of him at the Quidditch World Cup and want his autograph?"
Ronald Weasley: "I was just trying to be nice. Wanted to make the poor bloke feel good about himself, you know?"
Hermione Granger: "Admit it, Ron. You were a huge fan of Viktor's until he invited me to the Yule Ball."
Ronald Weasley: "I don't know what you're talking about. Literally, my memories of this "Yule Ball" haven't returned yet."

Boot Portkey WU
Boot Portkey
Return To: Stoatshead Hill, Ottery St Catchpole, Devon, England
Portkeys like this one are objects enchanted to instantly bring anyone touching it to a predetermined location. Because they often resemble everyday objects, Portkeys are a useful way to travel long distances without garnering unwanted attention from Muggles. This old boot was used to transport the Diggory and Weasley families, among others, from Stoatshead Hill in Ottery St Catchpole to Dartmoor for the 1994 Quidditch World Cup.
Constance Pickering: "Harry, have you come across any information in Gareth's journals that could help us put an end to the Calamity? Ensuring Muggles don't accidentally put these Portkeys on their feet is exhausting."
Harry Potter: "Possibly. Gareth had a theory that only the wizard who originally cast the Foundables Spell - in other words, Grim - can stop it."
Constance Pickering: "That's it? Just a theory? Gareth made it sound as though he possessed the secret to containing the Calamity once and for all. Does he at least know where Grim is?"
Harry Potter: "Unfortunately Grim's disappearance and whereabouts are as much a mystery to him as they are to us. And it's not as though Grim has been especially forthcoming with information either."
Constance Pickering: "I don't understand Grim at all. If he has the power to end the Calamity, why hasn't he already? And if he wants our help, as his notes suggest, why won't he tell us where he is and what's going on?"

Team Ireland Fan Fred and George WU
Team Ireland Fan Fred Weasley
Return To: Quidditch World Cup Stadium, Dartmoor, England
Fred Weasley rooted for Ireland during the 1994 Quidditch World Cup. His support ran so deep that he donned this colourful face paint and bet his life savings on Ireland winning despite Viktor Krum catching the Golden Snitch. Despite winning his wager against Ludo Bagman, Ludo defaulted on the debt, forcing Fred to look for alternate ways to secure his winnings.
Harry Potter: "Do you remember attending the Quidditch World Cup together?"
Ronald Weasley: "It's starting to come back to me. Fred and George bet their life savings that Ireland would win but Viktor Krum would catch the Golden Snitch. Dad was terrified that Mum would find out."
Harry Potter: "And it was spot on! I couldn't believe it. I still can't."
Ronald Weasley: "Wish that was the only surprise of the night."
Harry Potter: "Me too, but I refuse to let the Death Eaters' actions spoil my memories of that happy trip. You should too. Otherwise it feels as though we've let them win."
— Discussion[src]
"Ministries around the world have agreed to issue warrants for the arrest of everyone Gareth named as members of The Unforgivable in his journals. Raids have also begun on places Gareth confirmed The Unforgivable operate."
Harry Potter[src]
"That's excellent news, Harry! How goes your investigation into their leader's identity, Hermione?"
Constance Pickering[src]
"I searched newspapers, birth records, the transcripts of all the major wizarding schools, and decades' worth of wand permits. There was no evidence of a wizard named "Theus" ever existing. Their leader has either lived his whole life out of the public eye or "Theus" is an assumed name."
Hermione Granger[src]
"Wait a moment. Gareth suspected that the person currently claiming to be The Unforgivable's leader is actually another member using Polyjuice Potion to assume his identity. So not only is the current Theus not Theus, but the one who's supposed to be Theus isn't either?"
Constance Pickering[src]
"Confusing, isn't it? Seems these two imposters were more alike than Gareth thought."

Adversaries Event: Ancient Hungarian Horntail Adversaries and Dragons[]

Part II (4-11 October, 2021)[]

Brilliant Event Into the Fire part II

Based on Gareth's theory that only Grim can stop the Calamity, the team shifts their focus to locating him. But does the missing wizard even want to be found?[1]

Brilliant Triwizard Tournament Maze[]

"I'm afraid I've got some disappointing news on our hunt for the rest of The Unforgivable. None of the locations we raided turned up anything of value. If The Unforgivable were operating out of these places, as Gareth's intel suggested, they'd since abandoned them.
We haven't had much success tracking down any of the people Gareth identified as members of The Unforgivable either. While Aurors have detained a few both domestically and abroad, most have managed to elude capture.
"
Harry Potter[src]
"Rather convenient, isn't it? Almost as if they were warned about our investigation ahead of time and preemptively went into hiding. Even without Gareth, The Unforgivable still manage to be one step ahead of us."
Hermione Granger[src]
"As long as the Calamity continues, the Statute of Secrecy will be at risk and The Unforgivable will keep using it to gain power. Since we've reached a bit of an impasse with The Unforgivable, wouldn't it make sense to shift our focus to ending the Calamity instead?"
Constance Pickering[src]
"You have a point. But if Gareth's theory that only the one who originally cast the Foundables Spell can stop the Calamity is correct, that would require finding Grim..."

Brilliant Blast-Ended Skrewt WU
Brilliant Blastended Skrewt
Return To: Triwizard Tournament Maze, Hogwarts Castle
Rubeus Hagrid created this hybrid magical creature by cross-breeding Manticores and Fire Crabs. Vicious and ill-tempered, Blast-Ended Skrewts can grow up to ten feet in length and are capable of blasting fire from their rear-end. Several Blast-Ended Skrewts were released in the maze as obstacles for the Triwizard Tournament's Third Task.
Hermione Granger: "Harry, take a look at this passage in Gareth's journal about The Unforgivable's leader. What do you make of it?"
Harry Potter: ""Whoever is masquerading themself as Theus seems to know what we want before we realise it ourselves. To them, nothing is sacred, not even the mind."
Sounds as though Gareth suspects that this "Theus" could be a Legilimens, doesn't it?
"
Hermione Granger: "Yes, it certainly does. Which, if true, does not bode well for our ability to take them by surprise."

Brilliant Welsh Green WU
Brilliant Welsh Green
Return To: Brecon Beacons Mountain Range, Wales
Welse Green are considered one of the most subdued breeds of dragon. They are native to the hills and mountains of Wales and tend to prey on sheep and small mammals rather than humans. Fleur Delacour faced off against one such dragon in the First Task of the 1994 Triwizard Tournament. She expertly placed it under a magical slumber and safely retrieved the golden egg it was guarding.
Ronald Weasley: "Harry, I'm sorry for suspecting that you cheated your way into the Triwizard Tournament. It shouldn't have taken a Hungarian Horntail to make me realise that you never would have put your own name into the Goblet of Fire."
Harry Potter: "It's all right, Ron. It was a long time ago, I'm not mad anymore."
Ronald Weasley: "Well I am, at myself. How could I think so badly of my best mate?"
Harry Potter: "You had a moment. Merlin knows I've had my share of them. But you believed me when it mattered most. You spread the truth about what happened to Cedric. That's what really counts."

Brilliant Transfigured Draco Malfoy WU
Transfigured Draco Malfoy
Return To: Courtyard, Hogwarts Castle
Launching a spell at another's back is often looked down upon as a cowardly move. Draco Malfoy learned this lesson the hard way in his fourth year at Hogwarts. After attempting to attack an unaware Harry Potter, Barty Crouch Jr, disguised as Professor Alastor Moody, intervened. He transfigured Malfoy into a ferret and levitated him as punishment.
Constance Pickering: "I know finding Grim was sort of my idea, but where do we even start? Gareth had apparently been searching for Grim ever since Grim cast the Foundables Spell and he still couldn't figure out where Grim had gone."
Hermione Granger: "Harry and I are attempting to use the Calamity to reach out to Grim, though I'm not confident he'll respond back. You know as well as I do how reluctant he's been to divulge information."
Constance Pickering: "So was Gareth, but we managed to get through to him in the end. We'll just have to convince Grim that we're people he can trust."

Brilliant Starting Cannon WU
Starting Cannon
Return To: Triwizard Maze, Hogwarts Grounds
This cannon was used to signal the start of all three tasks during the 1994 Triwizard Tournament. Hogwarts Caretaker Argus Filch accidentally fired it off early during the First Task, which nearly caused the tent around him to collapse.
Harry Potter: "Why the long face, Hermione? We've finally got a lead on ending the Calamity, we're making progress towards stopping The Unforgivable, and almost all of Ron's memories through our fourth year at Hogwarts have returned."
Hermione Granger: "Yes, but Ron's recovery is contingent on the Calamity continuing. Our surges, as well-intended as they may be, still endanger the Statute of Secrecy and the public. How long can we realistically and responsibly carry on like this?"
Harry Potter: "So that's what's got you so down. You're worried we'll soon have to decide between ending the Calamity and restoring the rest of Ron's memories, aren't you?"
Hermione Granger: "I know what the right thing to do is. But when the time comes, I'm not confident I'll be able to go through with it."

Brilliant Amos Diggory WU
Amos Diggory
Return To: Triwizard Maze, Hogwarts Grounds
Amos Diggory was an employee of the Ministry's Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures and the proud father of Hogwarts Triwizard Champion, Cedric Diggory. Known to frequently boast about his son, Amos was devastated to learn of Cedric's death at the hands of Voldemort at the end of the Triwizard Tournament. Amos was inconsolable over the loss of his son and sources report that he's never fully moved on.
Constance Pickering: "I heard St Mungo's has begun their trial study into Cereus' blood malediction. I know there's no guarantee they'll be able to do anything for her, but I'm happy she's getting the attention and care she needs."
Harry Potter: "Me too. I visited her shortly after Gareth died, fully expecting her to hate me for my role in her father's death. But she didn't. She even thanked me."
Constance Pickering: "She sounds like a lovely woman."
Harry Potter: "She is. I don't condone the things Gareth did, but after meeting her, I understand why he went to such lengths to get her help.
I've already fulfilled the terms of my Unbreakable Vow, but I fully intend to see Cereus' care through to the end, whatever that may be.

Mysterious Note[]

Name Remarks
1st piece
"Hermione, look! SOS Task Force members found this scrap of parchment after returning a Foundable."
Constance Pickering[src]
"This must be Grim's response to the messages Harry and I sent."
Hermione Granger[src]
"That was fast, wasn't it? I hope that's a sign that Grim is eager to cooperate."
Constance Pickering[src]
5nd piece
"I've got some good news and some bad news, Hermione. The good news is that Grim got your notes. The bad news is I don't think he's going to help us."
Constance Pickering[src]
"Why? What did he say?"
Hermione Granger[src]
"That he's sorry but he can't stop the Calamity or disclose his location."
Constance Pickering[src]
"The "sorry" suggests that he's made this decision reluctantly. Did he elaborate himself at all?"
Hermione Granger[src]
"No, but it looks like we're still missing about half the note. Perhaps he's included an explanation there."
Constance Pickering[src]
Final piece
"It's no wonder Grim refused our requests. According to this, someone is holding Penelope hostage! They're threatening to harm her should Grim end the Calamity."
Constance Pickering[src]
"Gareth warned us that someone was looking for Penelope. He hoped we would find her first. Unfortunately I realised that she was sealed in a portrait on his desk too late. By the time I got there, Penelope was already gone."
Hermione Granger[src]
"You suspect the one who's extorting Grim and the "he" who abducted Penelope are one and the same?"
Constance Pickering[src]
"It has to be. It's also safe to assume the culprit is someone within The Unforgivable who wants to use the Calamity."
Hermione Granger[src]
"What are we going to do, Hermione? We can't ask Grim to sacrifice his wife for the greater good. Even if we could, I doubt he'd listen."
Constance Pickering[src]
"If Grim is telling the truth and The Unforgivable really are holding Penelope captive, then I doubt we'll have much success convincing him to stop the Calamity."
Hermione Granger[src]
"We're running into a similar problem with the few members of The Unforgivable we've managed to find and detain. Like Gareth, they've all made Unbreakable Vows to protect the cabal's secrets. Even if they were willing to talk, they'd likely die before revealing anything of value."
Harry Potter[src]
"Say what you want about The Unforgivable, but they certainly know how to cover their goalposts."
Constance Pickering[src]
"Grim is our best bet for containing both the Calamity and The Unforgivable. We have to get him to cooperate."
Hermione Granger[src]
"Then we only have one option: we have to find and rescue Penelope."
Harry Potter[src]
