- "Bartemius! Not trying to lure Potter into one of the Ministry's summer internships, are we? The last boy who went into the Department of Mysteries never came out!"
- — Bartemius Crouch Junior (impersonating Alastor Moody) to Bartemius Crouch Senior[src]
A summer internship was most likely a programme through which a student from Hogwarts could experience working for the British Ministry of Magic during the summer holidays.[1]
History[]
In 1890, a witch claimed her son was attacked by a Dementor, but she was proven wrong, as his son's gormless look actually came from long hours of paperwork from his job as a Ministry intern and not a Dementor's Kiss.[2]
Bartemius Crouch Junior, disguised as Alastor Moody by means of Polyjuice Potion, accused his father Bartemius Crouch Senior of trying to lure Harry Potter into one of these positions. He also alluded to the fact that the last intern who went into the Department of Mysteries was never seen again.[1]
After 2 May 1998, the British Ministry of Magic started advertising for summer interns among the Hogwarts student body.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
- The word "intern" being essentially as American English usage, this is presumably one of those modifications made for the film, in order to increase its accessibility for an American audience, and, by extension, an international one, given the prevalence of American English and cultural norms.
