Broken Balls: When Fortunes turn Foul is a book about divination. It is a book supplied by the Head Of Divination instead of the pupil having to purchase it due to the high cost of over 15 Galleons. It is one of the few books on Divination Hermione had read before she was 'insulted' by Proffesor Trelawny. Trelawny is rather fond of using this book in lessons to 'open the minds' of the pupils.
The author of the book became mad after his study of Divination took over his life. He later died because his superstition was too powerful and lead him to think that somebody was out to get him when he read a tealeaf upside down so he killed himself.
