- "Ah yes... Buckthorn is my married name. Verucca Buckthorn-Snyde."
- — Verucca Buckthorn-Snyde to Jacob's sibling[src]
Buckthorn was the surname of a family with members in the wizarding world. Although their blood status is unspecified, the fact that Verucca Buckthorn-Snyde married into the Buckthorn family when her own lineage, the Snydes, were apparent believers in the concepts of pure-blood supremacy implies that the blood status of the Buckthorn name was one where they were thought of as either pure or half-blood, although this is unconfirmed. As a member of the Buckthorn family by way of nuptial, Verucca adopted a double-barrelled surname that combined both her married and maiden names.[1]
