Canal Street was a major street in the New York borough of Manhattan.[1]

The Columbia Bank was located at the intersection of Canal Street and Broadway in 1926.[2][3] John A. Haas worked as a bookkeeper for this bank, but on 6 December 1926, he was arraigned along with alleged accomplice William Friend for the crime of defrauding the bank of over $100,000.[2][3]
