- "Just then, Neville caused a slight diversion by turning into a large canary."
- — Effect of Canary Cream[src]
A canary is a small, brightly coloured songbird, known for its melodious singing.[2]
History[]
A student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 1890s owned a pet canary. When Professor Bai Howin asked a class whether they had encountered a dangerous beast before and this student mentioned their canary, they were almost thrown out of class.[3]
In 1994, Fred and George Weasley invented Canary Cream for their joke shop, Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. The product temporarily turned whoever ingested it into a large canary.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
- In Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, the Canary Cream from Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes transforms the consumer into a large-eyed red canary, whereas the one from Zonko's Joke Shop changes them into a small, black-eyed yellow canary.
- The game also shows that the cream turns the consumer into a normal-sized canary, unlike in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, where Neville Longbottom was turned into a large one.
