A cardinal was a senior official within the Catholic Church, second in rank only to the Pope.[1]
In his afterlife as a ghost, the Fat Friar, who was executed by senior members of the Church when they became suspicious of his conspicuous displays of magic, resented the fact he never become a cardinal during his lifetime.[2]
