- "Past the weevil and the second tree to the copse"
- — Carmen Malum giving instructions on the location of her cave.[src]
This cave was located on the outskirts of Hogsmeade and was the home of the hag Carmen Malum.[1]
History[]
This cave was abandoned before Carmen moved in, which she did at some point during the late 1980s. The Hogsmeade residents, wary about Carmen due to the reputation of hags, avoided the place, and Carmen mostly only left the cave at night to forage and take her pet Nogtail, Noggin, for walks. Carmen also considered the land immediately outside her cave to be her property, which caused an issue when Hogsmeade farmers encroached on this land whilst trying to expand their farms due to good harvests the previous year.[1]
Alistair Fidgen, sensing an opportunity, freed Noggin from its cage and created a fake blight-curing potion, Blight-B-Gone, after the Nogtail predictably caused the local food to rot. Fidgen's scheme was eventually uncovered by Jacob's sibling, who also struck up a deal between Carmen and the farmers, with Carmen allowing them to use her land to grow crops as long as they paid a rent consisting of a crate of onions.[1]
