The Hogsmeade choir singing carols
Carols are a genre of festive music, similar to hymns, that are usually sung at occasions with religious significance like Christmas or Easter.[1] Both wizardkind and non-magic people sung carols, although the carols of one group were usually not very well known to the other, with wizarding carols having generally non-religious themes compared to non-magic people's carols.[2]
History[]
Rowan Khanna knew how to sing various carols, and threatened to distract Jacob's sibling from playing Wizard's Chess by singing carols, but then claimed they could beat their friend without having to.[3]
During Christmas at Hogwarts in 1991, a choir of Ghost carollers were heard singing a christmas carol in the halls of Hogwarts Castle.[4]
During Christmas in 1993, the Hogsmeade choir were singing carols in the streets of Hogsmeade.[5]
During the Hogwarts staff's attempts to impress the visiting schools of Durmstrang Institute and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic during the 1994–1995 Triwizard Tournament, they bewitched all the suits of armour in the Castle to sing carols, though they frequently forgot words.[6]
During Christmas in 1995, Sirius Black was heard singing various carols whilst the Order of the Phoenix were staying at 12 Grimmauld Place for the Christmas holidays.[7]
The Frog Choir were known to sing carols on occasion.[8]
During Christmas in 1997, Harry Potter and Hermione Granger heard the residents of Godric's Hollow singing christmas carols when they were investigating St Jerome's graveyard.[9]
