A catapult (called a slingshot in North American English) is a weapon used to launch projectiles which comes in various sizes. It can be a handheld weapon consisting of a Y-shaped stick with an elastic band strung between its two prongs, which was used to fire small projectiles like stones, typically by children.[1]
Goliath, a giant mercenary hired by the Philistines to fight for them in the ancient war they waged with the Israelites, was slain by a young boy armed only with a catapult.[2]
Winged catapults were one of the forbidden objects hidden in the Room of Requirement at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.[3]
