Necessary cat?

Is this category necessary? I think that its role is already being played by Category:Individuals by year of Sorting. Starstuff (Owl me!) 03:08, December 14, 2009 (UTC)

I Think it is Necessary (As I Created it) because, as you may want to know all individuals who were is the Year range while the marauders were in hogwarts, instead of the exact years. -- Ratneer Owl Me! 03:11, December 14, 2009 (UTC)
I can see this leading to the creation of categories for Riddle-era and Potter-era students. I think it would be better to work within the existing framework of "Category:Individuals by year of Sorting" than to create a new and redundant system for categorizing people by the period during which they attended Hogwarts. Any suggestions for how we could re-title this category and make it a part of "Category:Individuals by year of Sorting?" Starstuff (Owl me!) 03:28, December 14, 2009 (UTC)
I can see your point. As for renaming, I have no ideas, except for actually making Potter era and Riddle era Categories, which like you said might be a little redundant. We could leave this category, and put the Categories of 71-78 sorting 'Into' this category, and maybe doing the same for Potter and Riddle Era categories. I Think that actually might work. What do you think? -- Ratneer Owl Me! 03:34, December 14, 2009 (UTC)
With Mary Macdonald, we know that she was at Hogwarts during Lily and Snape's fifth year, so she cannot have been any more than two years ahead of them, and thus her first year could've been between 1969 and 1975. Since we can't pin down her sorting to a particular decade, much less a year, I'd suggest creating container categories covering twenty-year periods.
For example:
  • Sorted from 1960 to 1980
    • Sorted in the 1960s
      • Sorted in 1960
      • Sorted in 1961
      • Sorted in 1962
    • Sorted in the 1970s
      • Sorted in 1970
      • Sorted in 1971
      • Sorted in 1972
  • Sorted from 1980 to 2000
    • Sorted in the 1980s
      • Sorted in 1980
      • Sorted in 1981
      • Sorted in 1982
Characters whose sortings can be pinned down to a decade, but not to a year, would be listed in a decade category. Characters whose sortings can only be pinned down to a range of years spanning two decades would be listed in a twenty-year cat.
An alternative would be to have "Sorted during the Whatever-era" categories and then list the decade categories inside of them.
For example:
  • Sorted during the Riddle-era
    • Sorted in the 1930s
    • Sorted in the 1940s
  • Sorted during the Marauder-era
    • Sorted in the 1960s
    • Sorted in the 1970s
  • Sorted during the Potter-era
    • Sorted in the 1980s
    • Sorted in the 1990s
Characters whose sortings couldn't be pinned down to a decade would fall into the era categories. Starstuff (Owl me!) 04:08, December 14, 2009 (UTC)
Bit of a nitpick, but shouldn't Marauders be capitalized? - Nick O'Demus 13:30, December 14, 2009 (UTC)
Well I think both are good idea, anyone else have any opinons? -- Ratneer Owl Me! 16:38, December 14, 2009 (UTC)

Category name

Shouldn't this be "Category:Students during the Marauders' era"? --SnorlaxMonster 07:43, September 16, 2013 (UTC)

no Marauders?

Umm... Can someone explain to me why Lucius and Narcissa are on here but the actual Marauders aren't?Buggycas (talk) 03:26, July 10, 2017 (UTC)
