- "You need to find another place to put your chewing gum besides the underside of your desk, Mr Finnigan."
- — Bartemius Crouch Junior, disguised as Alastor Moody[src]
Chewing gum is a sweet which is chewed without being swallowed.[2]
History[]
Chesterfield was a Muggle brand of minty chewing gum advertised in New York's Times Square in 1926.[1]
In 1992, a Muggle woman was travelling to Chertsey on a train, but fell asleep, and woke up having arrived at King's Cross Station in London on 1 September. Her arrival to the incorrect destination was made more irksome when, while waiting near Platform Ten, she stepped in some old chewing gum.[3]
Ronald Weasley once found a football card in a pack of Muggle chewing gum. He gave it to Harry Potter in 1992 in gratitude for buying him a Chudley Cannons Jersey he wanted.[3]
In 1993, Peeves was putting chewing gum in the keyhole of the door to a room containing Argus Filch's brooms when Remus Lupin and his Defence Against the Dark Arts class passed by. Professor Lupin forcibly dislodged the wad of chewing gum with the charm Waddiwasi, sending it straight down Peeves' left nostril.[4]
During the first week of classes in 1994, Bartemius Crouch Junior (disguised as Alastor Moody) reprimanded Seamus Finnigan for trying to place his chewing gum on the underside of his desk in the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom.[5]
On 1 August 1997, the waitress at Luchino Caffe that served Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley cappuccinos was chewing gum.[6]
