The Clock Tower Entrance was one of the three main entrances of Hogwarts Castle (the other two being the Viaduct Entrance and the main Entrance Hall). It was used as a duelling arena by the Crossed Wands duelling club in the 1890s.

Overview

It consisted of a large open space at the base of the Clock Tower with two stairwells going up towards the upper levels of the Tower. Opposite the main entry there was a large window. There is controversy however, as to why the window was placed there, considering if one looked at the whole structure of the Clock Tower, a building was propped right where the window was. A portrait of Damara Dodderidge was hung here and, in 1995, so was a portrait of Temeritus Shanks. The massive steel and iron pendulum of the Clock Mechanism above swung slowly over this Entrance. The pendulum seemed to have an imprint of a many armed star on it, if one looked closely at it with what appeared to be runic symbols on the outer rim of the pendulum bob. The Entrance could be sealed with a portcullis (which could be lowered and raised with the aid of a lever) and the massive double doors could be locked with numerous bolts.

• For unknown reasons when Harry Potter and the other members of Dumbledore's Army pass through this entrance in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the pendulum is missing. In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, said pendulum is always present.
• The set used to film this Entrance Hall and the Clock Tower Courtyard was renovated into the Main Entrance Hall and the Entrance Courtyard in front of the Great Hall for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and subsequent films.
• In the video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the large window at the back of the tower looks out onto the surrounding landscape even though there is another tower directly behind it. This is corrected in the following game.
