Colby Frey was a wizard who started attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 2008[1] and was a member of Slytherin house. He was the younger[citation needed] twin brother of Fischer Frey.[4]

At an early age, his mother would read him rhyming poetry when he was unable to sleep, which he found comforting.[5]

At the age of eleven, he and Fischer began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in Slytherin house. They befriended Cassandra Vole, and she led their group in bullying their fellow students including Daniel Page.[4] After their first Charms lesson, they challenged a fellow student to a duel. Colby duelled them first in the Duelling Club and lost.[6]

One day, the student caught Colby and Fischer with a Bombtastic Bomb Box in the Grand Staircase. They were planning to use it to prank Argus Filch. When they asked what it was, Colby tried to deny that there was a box but Fischer pointed out it was right in front of them. He told them it was a collection of accessories. The student lied that Filch was on the way and they should run. They left the box behind to frame them so they'd get in trouble with Filch. They later realised they had been tricked and tried to duel the student, only to lose when they used the box against them.[7]

They went to the Library one night to find a newspaper article about Daniel. Daniel, Ivy Warrington and their friend found out that they had broken curfew and went to find out why. They watched the group at a distance, until Colby noticed and told Cassandra.[4]
