"Here comes Gilbert Wimple; he's with the Committee on Experimental Charms; he's had those horns for a while now..."
Arthur Weasley pointing out individuals at the Quidditch World Cup[src]

The Committee on Experimental Charms was a committee of the British Ministry of Magic founded by Balfour Blane in late 16th or early 17th century that oversaw the use and development of experimental charms.

The Committee was founded by Balfour Blane sometime before 1700. After thriving for nearly three centuries and integrating into the mainstream Ministry of Magic after its founding in 1707,[1] the Committee had to deal with some extremely odd ferrets found in the possession of Mortlake in 1992.[2] Around this time, Gilbert Wimple joined them.[3] The Committee once made a study on the percentage of wizards and witches that believed that Atmospheric Charms should be regulated due to their effect upon the environment.[4]

Behind the scenes

  • As the Committee on Experimental Charms must predate the Ministry itself, it may have started out as part of the Wizards' Council, although this is only speculation.
