"Hello, class! I am Professor Concordia Rowle and this is Muggle Studies. I know many of you don't see the value of studying Muggle history and culture at Hogwarts. My point is that while the lessons I teach may not be the most exciting or practical, I am confident that you will consider them amongst the most valuable you will learn here at Hogwarts. Isolated from the rest of the world, it's easy to fool ourselves into believing that our magic or pedigrees makes us superior to everyone else. It's my hope that by teaching you about Muggles, we can foster understanding, and create a more inclusive wizarding world."
— Professor Rowle introducing Muggle Studies[src]

Professor Concordia Rowle was a witch and a Muggle Studies professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by the early 21st century.[1]

Biography[]

Concordia was born into the Rowle family before or during the 20th century. During her life, she grew to develop a healthy interest in and respect for the history and culture of Muggles, believing its study would make witches and wizards more tolerant and open-minded.[1]

By the 2010–2011 school year, Concordia had become the Muggle Studies professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a way of sharing said realisation. Her first third-year class of the school year was with students from all four Houses. During her introduction of herself and the class, she noted that while her subject might not contain all that of which could be expected from others, it would prove to be among the most valuable, and imparted her ideals of a more inclusive world where magical and non-magical people were regarded as equals. Her subsequent classes would cover many topics about Muggles, and often involved testing the students' knowledge of facts about the non-magical world.[1]

Personality and traits[]

A progressive and scholarly witch, Concordia was noted to be vehemently opposed to the ideals of pure-blood- and wizarding supremacy, believing that all humans were of the same worth regardless of whether they had magical ability or not. Professor Rowle displayed enthusiasm for her own subject, as well as strong and passionate views about the importance of Muggle Studies in the everyday lives of wizardkind. Convinced that its study were essential to fostering of understanding and tolerance in the wizarding world, and set on passing said perspective on to her students, Concordia was a very prudent and scholarly-minded educator whose curriculum was centred around Muggle history and culture, as well as imparting practical knowledge regarding Muggle-wizard relations, with her lessons including but not limited to topics such as the dress guidelines of the Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, what Ministry agency were tasked with liaising with Muggles, and associated wizarding law.[1]
