- Constance Pickering: "Harry, can you explain Confundables? What are they?"
- Harry Potter: "We don't really know. They seem to be the result of a defensive spell of some sort. They are clearly there to protect the Foundables... From what, I'm not sure"
- — The mystery of Confounables[src]
The term Confoundable was used by the Ministry of Magic to refer to a sort a piece of chaotic magic that, during the Calamity, stuck displaced wizards and witches, magical objects and artefacts, magical creatures or even memories somewhere very public in areas inhabited by Muggles, thus threatening to expose the wizarding world and in potential serious breach of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy.[1]
The Statute of Secrecy Task Force, created as a response to the Calamity, was tasked to investigate and contain this threat and prevent further breaches of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy by banishing all Confoundables in order to retrieve all Foundables.[1]
