Corn, also known as maize, is a large grain plant that was first cultivated by the indigenous peoples of Mesoamerica.[1]

History[]

"Corn on the cob" is a term used to refer to an ear of freshly-picked corn that was cooked and served as food, with the corn kernels typically being eaten right off the cob.[2] A platter full of corn on the cob was one of the dishes served at the Welcoming Feast at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1991.[3]

Popcorn is a unique variety of corn which has hard kernels that swell and burst open when heated.[4] It is a popular snack food consumed by Muggles and wizards alike,[4][5] usually being served with salt, butter, or other seasonings.[4] "Buttered popcorn" was one of the many different flavours of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans.[6]

Corn starch, the starch derived from corn, was used as ingredient in a fake panacea made by a Rogue alchemist, along with lard. This potion caused the drinker to break out in boils, as opposed to giving them eternal life.[7]
