Cosa[3] was a free house-elf who worked at the Hogwarts kitchens for about 200 years by the 21st century.[1]
Biography[]
Early life[]
Cosa was from rural Hungary. Her kind owner freed her when they gave her an embroidered scarf which she always wore. Cosa was very proud to be a free elf. After she was freed, she started to travel the world and was amazed by the varieties of buildings and furniture she saw, which was why she developed a love of decorating.[2]
Working at Hogwarts[]
At some point, Cosa started working in the Hogwarts kitchens where she was paid a wage.[2]
During the 1820s, Cosa offered her help to Simon Talmadge and Gwydion Idris when she discovered the space they were redecorating. She was treated by them as a friend. Together they furnished the space with a long table, a bench, a floor lamp and books.[1] This was the first time she was paid for her work.[2]
Centuries later, in the 21st century, Cosa spoke with Gossamer, Lottie Turner and another student and helped them find the same furniture Simon used back when he was a student.[1]
Personality and traits[]
Cosa was an unusual house-elf like Dobby. She was proud to be a free elf even though others considered it shameful, even being paid for her work. She was emboldened and eager and loved to share her delight with others. She did not like anyone that was rude or anything untidy, and she was very outspoken and determined. Cosa liked to treated with respect.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
- While she would logically already be at Hogwarts during the events of both Hogwarts Legacy and Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, she is absent from both. She also possibly could have met Harry Potter during the 1994–1995 school year and fought in the Battle of Hogwarts with the other house-elves, though this is unconfirmed.
- Cosa was originally called Kossa. This was later changed after the worldwide release of Harry Potter: Magic Awakened.[3]
