"Today you will see why the wizarding community is rarely sick. The Cough Potion will relieve you of all symptoms involving an irritated throat. It will not help if you irritate me. I'll stand for no fake coughing through my lecture."
— Professor Snape introducing this potion to sixth-year Potions students[src]

The Cough Potion[2] was a healing potion which alleviated the symptoms of an irritated throat by soothing and reducing coughing.[1][2]

History[]

During the 1989–1990 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Professor Severus Snape taught his sixth-years how to concoct this particular brew in Potions class.[2]

In 1996, Fred and George Weasley repackaged their love potions as perfumes or cough potions so that they could be smuggled into Hogwarts, as Filch had forbidden Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes products on school grounds the previous year.[1]
