- "It was definitely a curse that killed her - probably the Transmogrifian Torture. I've seen it used many times, so unlucky I wasn't there, I know the very counter-curse that would have saved her..."
- — Gilderoy Lockhart[src]
There existed a counter-curse (incantation unknown) that counteracted against the Transmogrifian Torture according to Gilderoy Lockhart. On 31 October, 1992, he claimed to have known this counter-curse, and lamented that he could have saved Mrs Norris's life were he present at the time of her attack. However, Mrs Norris was not actually killed at all, but rather petrified by the Serpent of Slytherin, and, given that Lockhart made his career stealing the accomplishments of other wizardkind, it is unlikely he knew this counter-curse in the first place.[1]
