"Counter sight. Exactly. The best plan being no plan. Or many overlapping plans. Thus confusion."
Albus Dumbledore[src]

Countersight was a technique that could possibly interfere with a Seer's ability to perceive the future.[1]

History[]

In 1932, Albus Dumbledore told his followers that the best method to stop Gellert Grindelwald was to utilise countersight to confuse his ability to see the future, by confusing him with many overlapping plans that would be impossible to predict. One of their plans was to get Newton Scamander's Qilin to the Eyrie safely, which succeeded because they used countersight and duplicated Newt Scamander's case into half a dozen copies, thus confusing the Alliance and German Ministry of Magic Aurors by preventing them from knowing which case contained the real, living Qilin.[1]

Albus Dumbledore mentioned to Newt Scamander in 1927 that he was told by Gellert Grindelwald when they were younger that he had a vision in which an Obscurial killed the man he feared most, which was revealed to be Aurelius Dumbledore and Albus Dumbledore. However, Aurelius Dumbledore began slowly dying in 1932,[1] and Albus Dumbledore was killed by Severus Snape on 30 June 1997,[2] meaning Grindelwald's vision was incorrect.
