A Crushing Cabinet is a torture device consisting of an iron cabinet in which a person is slowly crushed, as they find the walls, floor and ceiling closing in. The crushing walls are activated by closing the door shut.[1]
Behind the scenes
- This cabinet is named only in the script for the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, when Harry Potter accidentally arrived in Borgin and Burkes he hid inside it, so as not to be seen by Borgin and Lucius and Draco Malfoy, leaving the door slightly open. At the time he did not realise what the Cabinet was, nor its crushing devices. Had he completely closed the door, he would have been crushed.
- Despite being identifed as a different cabinet in the film and video game, most fans believe that, in the book, Harry hid inside the Vanishing Cabinet later used by Death Eaters as an entryway to Hogwarts, and not the Crushing Cabinet from the film.
